The Tesla Backup Gateway 2.1 is a mandatory component of every Powerwall installation. This unit provides energy metering, communication, and automatic switchover to backup mode in the event of a power outage. The Gateway is installed directly after the main distribution board and controls the entire system.

The Gateway 2.1 supports both single-phase and three-phase grids, measures consumption and generation per phase, and ensures efficient charging and discharging of the Powerwall. Communication with the Tesla app and the cloud platform also takes place through this unit.
